Edit scene objects in the Inspector
Enter exact dimensions and transforms, change opening choices, read mixed selections, and recover from rejected Scene Builder edits.
The Inspector shows the properties of the wall, floor, door, window or prop selected in Scene Builder. Keep it docked while you work. Its title, sections and fields change with the current selection, and leaving Scene Builder clears the document.
Open Table, choose a scene, choose Edit scene, then use Select to choose an object. Open View → Inspector if the panel is closed.
#Enter exact numbers
Number fields show their unit inside the control. Structural coordinates, dimensions and elevation use world units, shown as wu. Rotation uses degrees. Roughness, metalness and three-axis scale show the precision they save.
- Type a value and press Enter to commit it.
- Press Escape to restore the authoritative value.
- Press Arrow Up or Arrow Down for one step.
- Hold Shift with an arrow for ten steps.
- Hold Alt or Option with an arrow for one tenth of a step when the field precision supports it.
An empty, non-numeric or out-of-range draft stays visible in red and explains what to change. Aether does not silently clamp it into an accepted value.
Reset appears only when the field has a meaningful default. For example, wall elevation resets to zero and prop scale resets to one. Reset writes through the same shared-scene mutation as typed entry.
#Read vectors and measurements
Related axes stay on one property row. A wall shows Start and End with X and Y. A floor shows one X/Y row for every corner. A prop shows X/Y/Z Position and Scale. Axis letters remain visible even without colour.
Use the chain control beside prop Scale to switch between independent axes and linked proportional scaling. Linked scaling changes all three values from the edited axis. The setting is editing state, not saved scene data.
Measurements such as wall Length and floor corner count are quiet rows rather than disabled inputs. Use the copy control when it is present.
#Edit openings and props
Doors and windows expose offset along the host wall, width, height, sill, frame width, frame depth and frame material. A door uses segmented controls for Hinge, Swing and State because each is a short mutually exclusive choice.
Blocks sight and Blocks movement are explicit switches. They change the existing server-authoritative channels; the Inspector does not introduce a separate visual-only state.
Props show their verified GLB source, position, rotation, scale and visibility. Props remain visual only and do not gain collision or sight authority.
#Understand mixed selections
Hold Shift while clicking or drawing a selection box to add or remove objects. A homogeneous selection shows values shared by the complete selection. A row says Mixed when the objects disagree; it never borrows the first object's value.
The Inspector offers only operations that apply to every selected object. A wall and floor can share material and deletion. A wall and prop share deletion but not material or a structural transform, so the Inspector omits those partial operations.
Select one object when you need to edit an individual numeric value. Applying a material or deleting a complete compatible selection remains one History action.
#Follow pending and rejected changes
After a commit, the affected field briefly shows Saving, then Saved when the server accepts that exact mutation. If another GM wins the same entry revision, the losing field restores the authoritative value and keeps the server's reason beside it.
Changing the selection, changing scenes, leaving Scene Builder or disconnecting clears stale drafts and field feedback. A rejected value never remains styled as committed.
#Use materials and destructive actions
The Materials tab uses the same property rows for source, name, tint, rotation, tile dimensions, roughness and metalness. Save only keeps a material in the palette. Save and apply also paints the compatible selection as one History action. Cancel discards the material draft.
Destructive actions sit below a separate divider. Their confirmation names the real object or surface count. Removing a referenced material requires a replacement and changes every reference atomically.
